Ghoneim calls on the international community to take serious action to stop the occupation’s violations against Palestinian water resources
New York (ST): The head of the Palestinian Water Authority, Mazen Ghuneim, called for serious international action by the United Nations and its organizations to pressure the Israeli occupation to stop its water violations, in implementation of the relevant UN resolutions, especially those related to the Palestinian people’s exercise of permanent sovereignty over their occupied lands, including the city of Jerusalem.
During the United Nations Water Conference, according to the Palestinian Wafa Agency, Ghoneim reviewed the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people and the Israeli violations in the water sector and their repercussions on the Palestinian citizen, represented by the almost complete seizure of water resources, the systematic targeting of water infrastructure and the pollution of the Palestinian environment, especially with regard to water drainage waste from the settlements.
Ghoneim called on the United Nations and the international community to take practical steps in support of the Palestinian approach to restore water rights in accordance with international law and the need to compel Israel to implement international humanitarian law, stressing the importance of implementing the provisions of international treaties related to the ability of peoples to freely dispose of their wealth and natural resources, including water.
