On March 23rd, the Prime Minister, Eng. Hussein Arnous, met with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Damascus, Xi Hongwei.
The two sides discussed means of strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, and mechanisms for advancing economic relations to the level of political and strategic relations linking Syria and China.
They underlined the importance of Syria’s participation in the “Belt and Road Initiative”, increased trade exchange and activating cooperation between the business sectors of the two countries to establish joint investment projects.
Engineer Arnous stressed the importance of opening broader horizons for bilateral cooperation in all fields to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, and expressed appreciation and thanks for the role played by China through humanitarian, relief and medical aid provided to those affected by the earthquake.
He referred to the importance of enhancing the participation of Chinese companies in the reconstruction in Syria and its reliable role in this field.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador said that his country is following with interest developments in the situation in Syria, especially after the devastating earthquake, and it will continue to provide aid to those affected, as well as securing many housing units and contributing to the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the affected areas.
He stressed that his country supported the internal transport sector by providing Syria with more buses.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Cabinet Dr. Qais Khader.
