DAMASCUS- President Bashar Al-Assad on Saturday received members of the General Secretariat of the Conference of Arab Parties which is currently holding its emergency session in Damascus. Several issues of Arab nationalist dimension were discussed during the meeting.
President Al-Assad said that the opportunity is available now for the political parties and forces to move, as there are real and practical examples on the ground that proved the success of besieged peoples in resisting blockades and that refuted the concept of defeat and concessions which the hostile media has been for years trying to promote and plant in the minds of the hearts of the people of the Arab society.
He stressed that “the most important thing is to meet and agree on the final goal, regardless of different ways of thinking”.
“This is one of the most important factors of our steadfastness, because without this spirit, no country can withstand such circumstances however big the support it gets,” President Al-Assad said.
“Parties reflect the image of the society in its intellectual and political trends, and the Arab society id distinguished for its great diversity. Therefore, the more the circle of the conference expands, the better it can express the aspirations of societies, and this requires work to expand this circle to include different currents and maybe dialogue is best way to achieve this,” the president added.
He reiterated the need to enhance the common identity for the Arabs, without which no progress can be achieved at any cultural or economic level or at any other level.
For his part, Secretary General of the Arab Parties Conference Qasem Saleh thanked Syria for hosting the General Secretariat’s session and offered condolences on behalf of members of the delegation to President Al-Assad and to the Syrian people on the victims of the earthquake. He stressed the solidarity of all the conference’s parties with Syria in the face of the repercussions of the earthquake.
Members of the delegation affirmed the need to liberate all the occupied Syrian territories and to lift the brutal blockade and sanctions imposed on the Syrian people in contradiction of the international law, pointing out that these sanctions clearly indicates the arrogance of the US policy.
They emphasized that lifting the siege is a national mission and an urgent humanitarian need, particularly after the earthquake disaster.
They reiterated that Syria has become the compass of all the Arabs thanks to its steadfastness and victory, despite all the terrorism and destructive schemes it has faced.
