DAMASCUS- “Yes to Syria’s Unity, Sovereignty and Nationalist Project…No to Blockade and Aggression on Syria” was the slogan under which the 63rd session of the General Secretariat of the Arab Parties Conference kicked off in Damascus on Saturday, with the participation of delegations from Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan, Sudan, Egypt, Palestine, Yemen, Bahrain, Algeria, Mauritania and Syria.
The aim of holding this conference in Damascus is to announce the Arab parties’ solidarity with Syria in the light of the current difficult circumstances the country is passing through due to the earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and destroyed the infrastructure and due to the western sanctions which have exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people and affected the Syrian state’s ability to respond to the crisis, Secretary general of Arab Parties Conference Qasem Saleh said during the opening ceremony.
He added that the agenda of the session includes visions and mechanisms to secure the flow of aid and humanitarian assistance to Syria.
“We are counting on peoples and parties they basically represent the Arab popular movement,” he clarified.
In a statement to SANA, member of the Central Leadership of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Mahdi Dakhlallah, said that the Syrians are facing terrorism on behalf of all the Arabs, clarifying that “should Syria has fallen, all the Arab countries would have fallen, and therefore, there is a need to upgrade the performance of Arab parties.”
For his part, Member of the General Secretariat and Secretary of the Conference Abdullah Menini affirmed that the session was an emergency one that came after the devastating earthquake that hit Syria last month. He pointed out that the entire world has realized that had not for the western sanctions, Syria would have faced this disaster in a better way, because these sanctions have prevented the Syrian people’s access to food, medicine, medical equipment, and thus they have participated in killing the Syrians.
Menini went on to say that the Arab parties came to Syria to support its efforts in fighting terrorism, liberating its land from all the occupation forces that are present illegally in the country, supporting its efforts in reconstruction and in facing the repercussions of the terrorist war that destroyed the Syrian infrastructure and capabilities.
