PA Speaker: Terrorism, Takfiri Mindset Threaten International Laws Human Values

DAMASCUS- Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham has stressed that international laws and human values will be the target of world terrorism and extremist takfiri thinking if the UN organizations and the world Parliaments don’t act to fight this mindset which tries to bring generations back to the ages of ignorance, backwardness and slavery.

Al-Lahham, who was speaking on Monday at the opening ceremony of a joint workshop between the People’s Assembly and the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), said that Syria has been among the first countries to open doors widely for cooperation with UN organizations starting from its faith in the organization’s role in laying the foundations of real cooperation among countries, particularly on humanitarian issues.

The PA Speaker pointed out that the Syrians have been exposed to a real humanitarian disaster caused by the global war on Syria amid much of talk about international humanitarian assistance, but less action and amid financial support by oil countries to terrorist groups to buy weapons to kill the Syrians.

He held all countries which supported terrorism in Syria and backed takfiri thinking responsible for feeding terrorism overseas.
