Qaraqe calls on International Community to Protect Palestinian Heritage against Israeli occupation attacks

The Head of the Palestinian National Library Issa Qaraqe has called on the international community to provide protection to Palestinian cultural heritage against the Israeli occupation attacks and attempts to falsify and destroy the heritage.

Qaraqe explained in a statement today on the occasion of the Palestinian National Cultural Day, reported by Wafa Agency, that the Israeli occupation authorities are trying to eliminate the Palestinian cultural and civilization heritage, and are working to perpetuate the occupation with cultural colonialism alongside the military colonialism, and destroy the Palestinian cities and villages, by targeting the cultural and artistic centers.

In addition, the occupation authorities also target the Palestinian legacy in other countries through aggressive measures, such as seizing the archive of the Palestinian Liberation Organization upon the Israeli invasion of Beirut in 1983,  repeatedly attacking the Palestinian institutions and seizing their documents and the intellectual production of the prisoners in the occupation detention centers, not to mention the occupation’s continued attacks on the Palestinian existence on the land of Palestine.

Qaraqe pointed out that the establishment of the Palestinian International Library is an attempt to preserve the Palestinian heritage with all its components, and to acquaint the world with the history, civilization and the cultural heritage of the Palestinian people. Hr stressed that the Palestinians will continue with the struggle to protect their intellectual heritage and preserve their identity despite the calamities they are exposed to under occupation, including displacement and seizure of the heritage.
