The Syrian community in Sweden calls for the lifting of European coercive measures on Syria

On March 12th, the Syrian community in Sweden called for lifting the European coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, to face the repercussions of the February 6th earthquake.

The community addressed a letter to the Parliament, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union Representative and the European Parliament office in Stockholm.

The community called on Sweden, in its capacity as the current President of the European Union, to work to lift the European coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, so that it can face the repercussions of the earthquake that caused devastation.

The community pointed out that this natural disaster has exacerbated the tragic humanitarian situation and the difficulties that the Syrian people are suffering from, as a result of the terrorist war that has been going on for 12 years

The community also demanded the abolition of the procedures imposed on the work of banks, in order to conduct the necessary financial transfers, to secure the basic necessities for the Syrian people from sources of energy, medicine and food, in addition to the necessity of providing urgent humanitarian relief assistance to those affected by the earthquake.
