President Al-Assad: “We welcome Iran’s participation in the meetings on building dialogue between Damascus and Ankara”
President Bashar Al-Assad on Thursday discussed with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian and the accompanying delegation issues of common interest as well as developments in the region and the world. The two sides focused on Iran’s participation in the meetings concerned with building dialogue between Damascus and Ankara.
President Al-Assad welcomed Iran’s joining of these meetings, stressing that there must be good preparation for them based on a clear and specific agenda, titles and clear goals.
The President stressed that the interests of the Syrian people are the basis of any political steps taken by the State and that the results of those steps must serve these intetests.
In turn, Abdullahian reiterated Iran’s desire to stand with the Syrian people and support Syria’s territorial integrity, stating that his country has complete confidence in the Syrian stances and decisions. He affirmed that his country will support these stanced in the coming 4-party meetings.
President Al-Assad considered that the visit of the Iranian Minister and his delegation to the stricken areas of Lattakia is a continuation of Iran’s assistance to the Syrian people in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake disaster. He emphasizeed the deep ties between the two friendly peoples and countries.
Abdullahian expressed his sympathy with the Syrian people and stressed that his country, since the first day of the earthquake disaster, had spared no effort in demanding through international forums the lifting of the unjust sanctions imposed on Syria.
He also expressed his country’s satisfaction with the course of rapprochement between Syria and the Arab States, which is in the interests of both states and the region as a whole.
