President Al-Assad to Grandi: It is important to look at the effects of the earthquake and the war on Syria with one comprehensive vision
President Bashar Al-Assad today received Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
President Al-Assad said that it is important to look at the effects of the earthquake and the war on Syria through one comprehensive vision, as the repercussions of the war made it more difficult to face the consequences of the earthquake.
President al-Assad stressed the importance of cooperation between the Syrian governmental and civil agencies and the international organizations working on the ground, and the coordination of efforts and capabilities within the framework of the transition from emergency response to the early recovery phase, in order to ensure the return of people in the affected areas to their normal lives and works.
President Al-Assad and Grandi also discussed continuing the necessary measures for the return of Syrian refugees to their cities and regions.
Grandi stressed that the Commission will intensify its work and efforts in Syria to support the humanitarian response undertaken by the Syrian state in the face of the earthquake disaster and the great human and material damage the earthquake left behind.
Grandi indicated that during his visit to the governorates of Lattakia and Hama, he sensed the great efforts made by the Syrian government and civil society organizations in aiding and providing relief to those affected by the earthquake.
