With the participation of Syria,  the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries concluded

The activities of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, hosted by Doha  concluded today. Syria participated in the conference with an official delegation headed by Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala.
The participants adopted the Doha Declaration, which stressed the concerted efforts of all countries to support the least developed countries and implement the Doha Work Program for the next ten years, allowing these 46 countries to exit this classification and join the developing countries.
The conference also adopted the reports of the chairmen of the eight round tables that were held on the sidelines of the general debate, and focused on the challenges facing the least developed countries and the concrete actions that can be taken to overcome those challenges.
Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala, head of the Syrian delegation to the conference, affirmed in a speech two days ago Syria’s firm support for the multilateral approach aimed at helping developing countries, especially the least developed ones, in achieving sustainable development goals away from politicization while respecting the specificities of countries and their national, cultural and historical values.
He pointed out that achieving the goals of the work program adopted at the conference will depend largely on the real commitment to implementing the partnerships and innovative solutions envisaged by all concerned parties, and will also depend on the active support of the international community and the implementation by developed countries of their pledges to provide official development assistance to help the least developed countries.
It is noteworthy that the conference was launched last Sunday under the slogan “From Potential to Prosperity”, with the participation of 6,000 personalities, including heads of states and governments, ministers, diplomats, businessmen and representatives of regional and global organizations, institutions and companies, with the aim of discussing ways to assist the 46 least developed countries around the world, and mobilize investments to advance their economies.
