Lavrov stresses need to preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, lift the sanctions imposed on it
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the importance of preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity and the need to lift the Western coercive measures imposed on it, especially in the light of the difficult circumstances caused by the earthquake.
During a press conference with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan in Moscow today, Lavrov said: “We affirm the necessity of preserving the unity of Syria and its territorial integrity and supporting efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis in it,” noting that the talks dealt with the humanitarian needs resulting from the earthquake that struck Syria on the sixth of February.
Lavrov indicated that Russia will continue to provide support to the Syrian people, stressing the need to lift the Western coercive measures imposed on Syria, especially in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions caused by the earthquake.
Lavrov pointed out that the Arab countries provided support to Syria in these difficult circumstances, including Saudi Arabia, which sent shipments carrying humanitarian aid, expressing his hope that this human solidarity would create the appropriate conditions for Syria’s return to the Arab League.
With regard to the Ukrainian crisis, Lavrov made it clear that the West wants to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in the battlefield, and prevents Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky from negotiating, pointing out that the Russian military operation in Ukraine will continue until its goals are achieved.
With regard to the Palestinian issue, Lavrov stressed the need to find a just solution to it through the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions to ensure stability in the region.
Lavrov indicated that his country had submitted a request to the Security Council to launch an impartial investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosion stressing the necessity of conducting an impartial and transparent investigation that guarantees accountability for those who carried out this terrorist operation.
Lavrov pointed out that the grain export deal presented by the United Nations includes two inseparable parts, the first is the export of Ukrainian grain by the Black Sea, and the second is the need to remove all obstacles to the export of Russian grain and fertilizers, indicating that Russia is committed to implementing the first part with all its provisions, while the West does not implement it. The sanctions imposed by the West on Russia impede the supply of grain and fertilizers to the world, which requires the United Nations to provide guarantees for the implementation of these provisions in full and not in part.
