Palestinian National Council urges international community to provide protection for Palestinian women against occupation’s crimes

The Palestinian National Council called on the international community and all international human rights and humanitarian bodies and institutions to provide protection for Palestinian women, and to stop the crimes and violations of the Israeli occupation against them.

In a statement today on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is commemorated on the 8th of March, the Council said: “Despite all the challenges, Palestinian women have been struggling for more than 75 years against the presence and oppressive practices of the occupation in order to achieve freedom, independence and establish of an independent Palestinian state.”

The Council indicated that the occupation authorities are detaining dozens of Palestinian activists in their prisons, where they are subjected to the most heinous methods of abuse, torture, solitary confinement and medical neglect, in clear violation of international treaties and coventions, foremost of which is the Geneva Convention.

The Council pointed out that the Palestinian women struggle against forms of oppression and injustice and they constitute a model of patience and struggle, especially in the light of the blockade imposed by the occupation on the Gaza Strip for years. The council indicated that the occupation constitutes a major obstacle in the way of the development of the Palestinian women status which requires serious international action to stop the occupation’s crimes against them.
