On March 5th, the council in the city of Qara, Governorate of Damascus Countryside, in cooperation with the local community, launched an afforestation campaign that included part of the international highway Damascus-Homs, and the entrances to the city.
The head of the council, Dr. Ahmed Sarim, explained that 1,000 plants have been received from the Directorate of Agriculture in the governorate, varying between cypresses and pine trees.
It is noteworthy that the green belt project in Qara extends over an area of 10 thousand dunums, 90 percent of which is planted with almond trees, 5 percent with cherry trees, and the remaining part with pistachios, vines and apricots, while the fruitful afforestation project extends over an area of 6 thousand hectares (60 thousand dunums), most of which are cherry trees.
