Russell inspects the reality of the damaged schools in Aleppo due to the earthquake

During her visit to the city of Aleppo today, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell was briefed on the reality of the damaged schools in the city, as a result of the earthquake.

In a statement during her visit to Muhammad Adeeb Al-Ali School in Al-Sukkari neighborhood, Russell noted the organization’s keenness to provide support to students so that they can return to their schools and complete their educational achievement, and help them overcome the psychological crisis they were exposed to.

In her turn, UNICEF Representative in Syria Angela Kearney explained that the visit aims to see and evaluate the damages that befell schools as a result of the earthquake, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and to seek with financiers to provide the necessary support for their maintenance, reopening and providing educational services to students.

The Director of Education in Aleppo, Eng. Mustafa Abdel-Ghani, drew attention to what the UNICEF team provides to schools and the educational process, in terms of psychological support for children and encouraging them to restore their normal lives, pointing out that Education has allocated many of its schools to shelter families affected by the earthquake.
