Russia-EU summit rescheduled for late January – Kremlin official

The next Russia-European Union summit has been rescheduled for the end of January at the European partners’ request, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said at a press briefing in Moscow on Friday, according to  Voice of Russia, Interfax.

“Given a number of obvious protocol-linked difficulties, they [the European Union] proposed postponing these highest-level consultations until January. We have already agreed upon a date at the end of January,” he said.

This move was taken exclusively at the request of Russia’s European partners, he said.

“It was their initiative. They have some difficulties because of events surrounding the Christmas holidays,” Ushakov said.

Russian cities and Brussels have taken turns in hosting Russia-EU summits, which are held once every six months, Ushakov said. Brussels has traditionally hosted such events in November or December.
