Pedersen: The humanitarian response to the earthquake victims in Syria is an urgent priority

New York (ST): The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, affirmed that the emergency humanitarian response to those affected by the earthquake is an urgent priority in Syria, calling for the non-politicization of the aid file.
In a briefing to the UN Security Council, transmitted by the United Nations website, Pedersen referred to the need for emergency response as this is a  humanitarian duty, and to allow access to aid by all means.
Pedersen added, “This is the right time for everyone to donate quickly and generously to Syria and remove all obstacles that prevent relief from reaching the Syrians in all affected areas,” expressing welcome for the Syrian government’s initiative to open the crossings for aid to reach the northwest regions of the country.
