Arab politicians call for breaking siege imposed on Syria

Arab political figures have called for breaking the unjust Western blockade imposed on Syria, affirming solidarity with it in the difficult humanitarian conditions as a result of the earthquake, in conjunction with the terrorist war it has faced over the past years.

This came during a solidarity meeting held on Saturday’s evening at the headquarters of the Egyptian Writers Union, in the presence of representatives of the Syrian diplomatic mission to Egypt, under the title “Peace to Damascus”. The solidarity meeting was organized by the Dr. Gamal Shiha Foundation for Education, Culture and Sustainable Development, in cooperation with the African Foundation for Development, to commemorate the 65th  anniversary of the Syrian-Egyptian unity.

Abdel Hakim Abdel Nasser, son of the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, said, “We offer our sincere condolences to our brothers in Syria for the victims of the earthquake. We thank everyone who stood by the Syrian state in confronting its repercussions.” He stressed that the situation at the present time necessitates that Syria return to its place and take its natural position.

In turn, Dr. Jamal Shiha said: “I say Peace to Damascus. Here is Damascus and here is Cairo. Today we are celebrating the 65th  anniversary of the Syrian-Egyptian unity. Our enemies want us to forget our national culture in order to facilitate control over us and so we must preserve the national memory, as the nation’s future needs an Arab project to fill the horizon, because there is a Zionist scheme and projects that support it.

Dr. Alaa Abdel-Hadi, Chairman of the General Syndicate Council of the Union of Egyptian Writers and President of the Union of Arab Writers, saluted the struggle of the Syrian people for the unity of their lands, stressing the need for solidarity with Syria in light of the humanitarian catastrophe it is facing due to the earthquake in conjunction with the Zionist aggression and terrorism.

In turn, Dr. Hassan Ismail Moussa, President of the Arab-European Development Group and Vice President of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad, affirmed everyone’s solidarity with Syria and its people in this disaster.

Kamal Abu Eita, the former Egyptian Minister of Manpower, underlined the need for all free people in the world to stand with Syria and the necessity of preparing popular convoys of all Arab capitals to go to Syria, including doctors, pharmacists, engineers and workers, who participate with the Syrians to lift the effects of the disaster.

The Libyan activist and former coordinator of the Arab National Committee for Unity Omar al-Hamidi, head of the Nasserist party Muhammad al-Nimr  and head of the Lebanese People’s Congress Kamal Shatila highlighted the importance of Syria’s return to its Arab and regional position. They underlined the need to organize Arab marches heading to Syria from all Arab countries and holding an Arab national conference in Damascus.

In a recorded message, former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud commended the keenness of the Syrian leadership and President Bashar Al-Assad to preserve Arab pride and dignity and to confront all conspiracies at home and abroad, including the conspiracies of the Israeli occupation.

Through the Zoom technology, a number of Arab personalities, including Archbishop Atallah Hanna of the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Sebastia, shed light on their solidarity with Syria in defense of it, pointing out that we must stand with Syria, its leadership, army and people, to break the unjust siege imposed on it.

Solidarity with Syria was also announced via the Zoom program by Ismail Al-Shatti, former Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister, Brigadier General Mustafa Hamdan, head of the Nasserites stationed in Lebanon, Khaled Al-Batsh, a member of the Political Bureau of the Jihad Movement, and Maan Bashour, head of the Lebanese Arab National Forum.

The Saudi writer Youssef Makki called in a message he sent to the meeting to support Syria, which is considered as a fortress to confront Zionist and imperialist projects, in the reconstruction of what the earthquake damaged.

Then, the solidarity meeting screened a documentary film produced by the Gamal Abdel Nasser Foundation, entitled “Syria, the beating heart of Arabism.”

The meeting was attended by the Diplomatic Mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to Egypt, Third Secretary Muhammad Arnous and Attaché Ali Ali.
