A delegation from the AIPU will visit Syria to affirm solidarity with the Syrian people in the aftermath of the earthquake

Concluding the activities of its 34th Conference on Saturday in Baghdad, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) announced forming a delegation for visiting Syria to confirm its solidarity with the Syrian people in the aftermath of the earthquake, stressing the importance of Syria’s return to its Arab surrounding so that it can play its pivotal role in the region.

The announcement was made in the final communique of the AIPU 34th conference held today in Baghdad with the participation of the delegation of the Syrian People’s Assembly (PA) led by its Speaker Hammouda Al-Sabbagh.

The communique reiterated the need to enhance joint Arab action at all levels to secure Syria’s return to its Arab surrounding and help it play its key role at the Arab, regional and international arenas.

On Palestine, the communique reaffirmed the AIPU’s firm support for all efforts aiming at supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinians’ struggle to establish their independent sovereign state with Al-Quds as its capital.

The communique called on the Security Council and all influential international humanitarian organizations as well as democratic Parliaments and international parliamentary unions to assume their legal responsibilities and work to put an end to the Israeli occupation’s inhuman practices towards the Palestinian people and halt its settlement expansion schemes.

The communique also called for supporting Iraq, stressing the need to secure all elements to enhance its stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity in the confrontation of terrorism.

It made it clear that the Arab region is currently facing growing challenges and threats due to terrorism, violence and extremism, renewing its rejection of all forms of killing and criminality under any circumstances and calling for strengthening cooperation and coordination between all countries of the region and the international community to put an end to cross-border terrorism.
