Damascus, (ST) – The Governor of Damascus Muhammad Tariq Krishati on Wednesday discussed with representatives of the United Nations (UN) organizations operating in Damascus, the Syrian Trust for Development, charities and humanitarian institutions, means of enhancing cooperation and coordinating relief and humanitarian work and organizing efforts, emergency response plans and disaster management.
Talks during the meeting emphasized the need to meet the requirements of the humanitarian and relief response and development plans.
Krishati explained the measures taken by the governorate since the earthquake occurred, in terms of meeting the needs and providing assistance to the affected governorates, as well as the formation of technical committees to inspect buildings and emergency plans.
Krishati appreciated the efforts made by international organizations, charities humanitarian institutions and the civil society in relief work, aid distribution, and cooperation with government agencies in the affected governorates. He pointed out that the governorate provided all the necessary support and facilities for the work of these organizations, associations and institutions in all fields.
The Governor stressed that the unjust economic measures imposed on the Syrian people have greatly impeded rescue and relief operations at the time of the earthquake, pointing out that these measures impede the arrival of equipment and tools necessary to deal with disasters and negatively affect humanitarian work.
Krishati called on international organizations to contribute to the pressure aimjng at lifting the sanctions imposed by Western countries on Syria.
