Aid convoys from Iraq and Oman to relief the victims of the earthquake in Syria

Baghdad, (ST) – The Husseiniya Shrine in Iraq announced sending an aid convoy to relief the victims of the earthquake in Syria. It indicated its readiness to treat cancer patients and the elderly affected by the earthquake in its hospitals in Karbala Governorate.

The Iraqi News Agency “INA” quoted the supervisor of the Husseiniya shrine, Sheikh Abd al-Mahdi al-Karbalai, as saying: It was decided to transfer and treat the injured, as a result of the earthquake in Syria, as well as those with cancer and the elderly at the expense of the shrine. He indicated that efforts are continuing to deliver more aid to the brothers in Syrian.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Holy Shrine, Hassan Al-Abaiji, announced the arrival of several vehicles loaded with humanitarian, medical and food aid to Lattakia Governorate. He affirmed that a second batch of aid will be sent soon to the areas affected by the earthquake.

Al-Abaiji indicated that the first convoy that arrived in Lattakia included 1,000 tons of various foodstuffs, mobile hospitals, medicines, as well as oil derivatives.

For his part, the head of the Health and Medical Education Authority at the shrine, Dr. Sattar Al-Saadi, said that work is underway to set up a field hospital for the experienced medical staff to start providing support in it. He pointed out that there is coordination between the Iraqi and Syrian sides in order to facilitate the procedures for the work of the mobile hospital convoy in order to relief the affected.

Also, the Al-Abbasid Shrine in Iraq announced on Tuesday sending a convoy of humanitarian aid, including 76 vehicles, to provide relief to the victims of the earthquake in Syria.

The Secretary-General of the shrine, Mustafa Dia Al-Din, said in a speech reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The convoy set off from the Al-Abbasid’s shrine,  loaded with various types of food, medical and service aid to meet the necessary needs for those affected by the earthquake as soon as possible.”

Iraq, with its various governmental and popular bodies, continues to send aid in all its forms to provide relief to the quake-affected people in Syria.

Oman Sends a New Relief Aid Convoy to Those Affected by the Earthquake in Syria  

In the same context, the Sultanate of Oman sent a new humanitarian relief convoy to those affected by the earthquake, provided by the Syrian, Arab and foreign communities and from the Omani citizens, heading by land to Syria.

Syria’s ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman Idris Maya stated that: “The shipment contains 25 tons of various donations, such as medicines, foodstuffs, infant formula, and blankets”. It is scheduled to send another shipment today.

The Syrian embassy in Muscat continues to receive material aid daily from morning until late evening.
