Since the first hours of the catastrophe of the earthquake that hit Syria on the 6th of February, field kitchens have been established throughout the city of Aleppo, and have become an a helping element for relief operations that target shelters embracing the affected people, through distributing thousands of meals to them on daily basis.
These meals are perpared by affected young men and women who rushed to help the families affected by the earthquake. The number of volunteers daily in one of the kitchens reaches 150, in addition to the volunteers who arrived from Damascus.
The volunteer, Guferia Akhtar, has another story, as she is a Pakistani born in Aleppo, where she said: “I felt a responsibility towards the community during its calamity, because I feel a great belonging to this city because I was born and raised in it.
Field kitchens is an exceptional initiative to confront the calamity and work on the ground, and with the desire and enthusiasm of the volunteers, Syrians look forward to expanding this initiative in order to reach the largest number of those affected.
The Aleppo coordinator of the “Syria Brings Us Together” Foundation, Yola Ghandour, stated that the Foundation has adopted a mechanism to support the field kitchens with the foodstuffs needed to prepare meals, bringing the total quantities of food aid provided to the field kitchens from the Foundation to about 60 tons, which can be increased in the coming days.
