People in the occupied Golan commemorate 41st anniversary of their open strike against Israel’s annexation of Golan, mourn earthquake victims

occupied Syrian Golan,  (ST) –  On Tuesday, the people in the occupied Syrian Golan commemorated the 41st anniversary of the comprehensive strike against the false and void Israeli decision to annex the Golan, by announcing a general strike and mourning the lives of the victims of the earthquake that hit Syria.

The celebration on this occasion was limited to decorating the squares of the villages of the Golan with the flag of the homeland and gathering in the squares of Majdal Shams and Baqatha, as an expression of sadness and pain for what happened to the homeland as a result of the earthquake. All activities and festivals that used to be held on this day were canceled due to the disaster.

In a statement to SANA reporter in the occupied Golan, the Dean of the liberated Syrian prisoners, Sidqi Al-Maqt said that on this day in 1982, the Golan said its word, “NO to the occupation and to all its settlement expansion plans”.

“It was a stand immortalized in history, expressing the Syrians rejection of the Israeli occupation’s false decision, issued on December 14, 1981, on Golan annexation, which was followed by honorable stands by the Golanese to thwart all the occupation’s Judaization attempts, including imposing the “Israeli identity”, holding the so-called local council elections and the establishing the wind turbines scheme,” Al-Maqt said, affirming that all the Occupation plans will not pass”, he added.

Sheikh Jad al-Karim Nasser from the people in occupied Golan pointed out that 41 years ago, the people of the Golan called for an open strike, to stress that there is no alternative to the Syrian identity.

Marzouq Shaalan said that the people of the Golan commemorate the anniversary of the strike, affirming their adherence to their Syrian Arab identity and their belonging to the homeland. “This is a national heritage that we inherit generation after generation, and the national stances are repeated in the face of all the judiazation plans of the occupation, and this is what we witnessed during the people of Golan’s confrontation of the so-called local council elections and the turbines scheme”, he added

Shaalan stressed the continuation of the struggle in the face of the occupation’s arbitrary measures until the liberation of the Golan and its return to Syria.

Forty-one years have passed since the comprehensive general strike waged by the people of the occupied Syrian Golan in rejection of the plans of the Israeli occupation. Our people in the Golan continue with their resistance against the occupation and its aggressive and expansionist measures towards their land and property.
