Al-Mikdad, Pedersen discuss enhancing the role of the UN in responding to the effects of the earthquake
Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad discussed today with Geir Pedersen, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria, the efforts that can be exerted to enhance the role of the international organization in responding to the devastating effects left by the earthquake in Syria.
The two sides stressed the need not to politicize the humanitarian issue and respect the sovereignty of Syria and its territorial integrity.
Pedersen expressed his deep condolences over the earthquake victims, stressing his readiness to do everything in his power to help Syria overcome the effects of this disaster.
Al-Mikdad expressed thanked the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his Special Envoy for their solidarity with Syria in the light of this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, stressing Syria’s keenness to provide all possible support to those affected by the earthquake, and to deliver humanitarian aid to all those in need in all regions without any discrimination.
Al-Mikdad affirmed Syria’s readiness to work closely with various United Nations agencies tgat aim at supporting the efforts of the Syrian state in facing the catastrophic repercussions left by the earthquake.
He pointed to the need to lift all unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.
