Damascus, (ST) – A number of planes carrying humanitarian aid, sent by several Arab and foreign countries, arrived on Monday at the airports of Damascus, Lattakia and Aleppo targeting those who were affected by the devastating earthquake that struck the country at dawn last Monday.
The humanitarian initiatives indicate these countries’ solidarity with Syria and the Syrian people in the face of the ordeal and they aim at alleviating the suffering of the the Syrian people from the repercussions of the earthquake.
Each of the planes carried tens of tons of humanitarian assistance, including foodstuffs, tents, blankets, medicine and other necessary matetials.
The planes, that arrived in Syria on Monday, were sent by China, Iran, Iraq, UAE, Lebanon, Sudan, Libya, Jordan, Palestine, Kazakhstan and Chechnya.
Aid convoys carring humanitatian assistance to the Syrian people in the quake-affected areas also arrived in Syria from, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Oman as well as from Hizbollah party and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party.
Yesterday evening, the Syrian embassy in the Oman sent a batch of humanitarian aid provided by the Syrian, Arab and foreign communities in Oman and by a number of Omani citizens to the Syrian people in the areas affected by the earthquake.
Syria’s ambassador to Oman Idris Mayya affirmed that the shipment included 25 tons of various donations, such as medicine, foodstuffs, infants formula, blankets etc., pointing out that a second shipment is scheduled to arrive in Syria soon.
Ambassador Mayya thanked the Syrian and Arab community and the Omani people for their solidarity with the Syrians.
