MADRID-The Patriarchal Vicar of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch in Spain, Archbishop Nicolas Matta Abd Al Ahad, called for not politicizing the issue of humanitarian aid to Syria and urged delivering them to all people affected by the earthquake in the country.
Yesterday, Archbishop Abd Al Ahad presided over a Sunday mass at the Virgin Mary Church in the Spanish capital, Madrid, for the comfort of the souls of the earthquake victims in Syria. He called for a spirit of love, unity, and cooperation among all people to face this ordeal and its repercussions. He also appealed to everyone to provide aid and assistance for those who were affected by the earthquake in damaged areas.
The Archbishop added that Syriac Church in Spain, in cooperation with several churches, coordinates directly with the Syrian Embassy in Madrid and Spanish civil organizations and institutions in order to send material and financial aid and donations to Syria.
He called for God’s mercy for the souls of the victims, offering condolences to their families and relatives, and wishing a speedy recovery to all the wounded and injured.
The mass was attended by a crowd of Syrian expatriates, Spanish citizens, Chargé d’ Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Spain Abdullah Hallaq, a number of embassy staff members and Syrian students in Spain.
