President Al-Assad thanks UAE for assistance after earthquake

DAMASCUS- President Bashar Al-Assad on Sunday received the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdallah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the accompanying delegation.

Talks dealt with the repercussions of the earthquake that hit Syria last week.

The UAE’s Foreign Minister conveyed the condolences of President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to President Al-Assad and the Syrian people over the victims of this disaster.

President al-Assad thanked the UAE’s leadership and people for the assistance they are offering to the Syrian people in this ordeal.

The President said that the UAE was one of the first countries that assisted Syria and sent a huge quantity of relief and humanitarian aid as well as search and rescue teams.

“The Syrian people highly appreciate the UAE’s rapid response and support which reflect the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries and affirm the humanitarian principles that the brotherly UAE people have,” President Al-Assad stressed, wishing the UAE more progress and prosperity.

The Emirati minister, who also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery to the injured, reiterated his country’s continuous support for Syria during this ordeal to help the Syrian people overcome the quake repercussions.

Following the meeting, the Emirati minister visited the areas affected by the earthquake where he was briefed on the efforts being exerted by the Emirati rescue teams operating in these areas.
