Abdullahian to Guterres: The need to increase international aid to the people of the earthquake-affected areas in Syria
Tehran (ST): Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian stressed the need to increase international aid to the people of the earthquake-affected areas in Syria and Turkey.
During a telephone conversation with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, Abdullahian said: “It is expected that the Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator of the Secretary-General of the United Nations will pay special attention to this issue”, indicating his country’s readiness to provide all forms of humanitarian assistance to those affected by the earthquake.
With regard to the regional dialogue initiative, Abdullahian drew attention to the balanced foreign policy doctrine of his country’s government, saying, “Iran always welcomes such meetings and the strengthening of regional relations.”
Abdullahian referred to the need for sticking to the technical behavior of the International Atomic Energy Agency, explaining that the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency have defined the framework for cooperation, and the travel plan of the Agency’s Director General to Tehran is also on the agenda of the two parties.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations confirmed that the United Nations Deputy for Humanitarian Affairs will go to Syria and Turkey, and the United Nations will use all its energies to help the victims of the earthquake, including in Syria. He said: “We consider helping the Syrian people as a purely humanitarian issue.”
Guterres stressed the issue of the agreement to lift sanctions on Tehran, explaining that there is no other option but the return of all parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
