Arab calls for lifting the siege on Syria to help the country face earthquake repercussions

Member of the Ahl al-Bayt World Assembly and a leader in the Egyptian “Ashraf” (Honorables) Syndicate, Taher al-Hashemi, called for lifting the unjust Western blockade imposed on Syria to help the country face the impacts of the earthquake that struck it, resulting in hundreds of victims and injuries.

Al-Hashemi said in a statement today: “We raise our voice loudly to lift the injustice and siege imposed on the resisting Syrian people,” stressing his full solidarity with Syria for what it suffered as a result of the humanitarian catastrophe that occurred, and expressing condolences to the families of the victims.

Al-Hashemi added: “Syria is in the heart of all the free people of the world, and for 12 years it has been subjected to a dark, demonic war targeting its steadfastness and sovereignty and affecting people and infrastructure,” pointing to the effects of the unjust economic blockade imposed by the United States and its allies on Syria and which continued despite this humanitarian crisis.

In a relevant context, the Tunisian branch of the National Union of Syrian Students affirmed that the blockade imposed by the United States on Syria is inhuman and illegal, calling for immediatly lifting it.

In a statement, the Union branch demanded action to strengthen Arab and international solidarity with Syria so as to save and protect its earthquake-stricken people, stressing that the Western blockade on the country obstructs the relief process which is actually a duty of the Arabs and of all humanity.
