Last night, 3 planes arrived at Damascus International Airport, two of them from the United Arab Emirates and the third from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, loaded with tens of tons of relief aid for those affected by the earthquake.

The Venezuelan plane to Syria included a team of experts and specialists, including 25 aid workers with all their tools, equipment, and modern devices that help in rescue, dogs trained to search for living and dead bodies under rubble, in addition to 15 tons of food and medical aid.

The Venezuelan Ambassador to Damascus, Jose Gregorio Biomorji Musatis, said: “We are here to help  people face the effects of the earthquake and to tell them that we are with them in facing all the circumstances they were exposed to and are being exposed to, despite all the sanctions imposed on our two countries.”

He expressed his country’s full support for Syria and its non-submission to any external dictates in this regard.

In turn, Luis Colia Curuelo, representative of the Venezuelan Ministry of Interior and Justice and supervisor of the Venezuelan team of experts, explained that the multi-tasking team includes an earthquake expert, rescue and first aid specialists, firefighters and civil defense with experience in relief and humanitarian missions, accompanied by dogs specialized in searching for living and dead bodies under rubble.

For his part, the member of the People’s Assembly (Parliament) and the head of the Syrian-Venezuelan Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Moein Nasr, showed appreciation for  Venezuela’s humanitarian contribution and its stand by Syria in all its  crises, which indicates the depth of the friendship between the two countries and their peoples.

Moataz Dohji, Assistant Minister of Local Administration and Environment, said that this aid will be distributed through the Higher Committee for Relief and its branches in the governorates and through the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, where lists and statistics of the needs of each affected governorate have been prepared for the distribution to take place accordingly.
