UAE, India, Jordan, Pakistan send humanitarian aid to Syria

Damascus (ST) – Four planes loaded with relief, food and medical humanitarian aid, sent by the UAE, India, Jordan and Pakistan  to those affected by the earthquake in Syria, arrived on Wednesday at Damascus International Airport.

Pakistani ambassador in Damascus Shahid Akhtar told SANA that this ordeal that Syria is going through transcends borders and all lines and it is characterized by a humanitarian dimension, therefore, all parties must provide the necessary assistance and support in this regard.

He indicated that Pakistan has supported Syria and it will continue with this support in future.

This batch of aid is a gift from the Pakistani people and their government to Syria , Akhtar said, stressing that the Pakistani plane carried 40 tons of aid mostly tents and blankets. He indicated that within the coming days and in coordination between the governments of the two countries, more aid will be sent to Syria, noting that food and medical supplies are expected to arrive on board anothet plane next Friday.

Regarding Indian relief aid plane that arrived at Damascus airport this morning, Satinder Kumar Yadav, the charge d’ affairs of the Indian embassy in Damascus, stated that India feels the extent of the disaster that befell Syria and the difficult times that the Syrian people are going through.
He pointed out that the aid plane carries 6 tons of medical supplies and medicines. He stressed that another relief plane will arrive in Syria within the coming 24 hours.

In turn, Dr. Basil Al-Kayed, the Charge d’ Affairs of the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus, announced that the aid plane that arrived today was provided by the Jordanian people to the Syrian people, under the directives of King Abdullah II.

The aid includes all kinds of humanitarian aid, Al-Kayed said.
He indicated that the plane was loaded with 10 tons of relief, food and medical supplies, stressing that Jordan will provide everything possible to Syria to face the current circumstances.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment Moataz Dohji said that the relief materials that arrived from the friendly governments of UAE, Jordan, India, and Pakistan will be immediately shipped from Damascus International Airport to the governorates affected by the earthquake, stressing that the operation room in the Ministry is following up all relief works.
