Damascus, (ST)- Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabaa affirmed that the number of schools that were damaged as a result of the earthquake that hit Syria at dawn yesterday has so far reached 248 schools in the governorates of Aleppo, Lattakia, Tartous, Hama, and Idlib countryside.
He pointed out that 126 schools have been allocated as shelter centers in the governorates.
Minister Tabbaa stated that the affected schools number 71 in Aleppo, 50 in Lattakia, 27 in Hama, 99 in Tartous, and one school in Idlib countryside.
During a virtual meeting with education directors in the governorates affected by the earthquake, Tabbaa stressed the need to intensify efforts to alleviate the repercussions of the earthquake, by securing all supplies for those affected as well as restoring and continuing the educational process.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Tabbaa asked the directors of education to prepare lists of the various works carried out in the field of school renovation and rehabilitation.
