1500 hectares fruitful afforestation projects plan for this year

Damascus, (ST) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform is working to introduce new areas into agricultural investment this year, through a plan to plant 1,500 hectares with fruit trees, The ministry is also  working to provide services for fruit and forestry production centers, and for building agricultural ,forestry roads and fire tracks.

Minister Qatana Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform – pointed to the importance of focusing on the developmental aspect of land reclamation. He stressed the need to develop plans according to the priorities and economic feasibility of the sites .

The minister explained that about 572,000 hectares are arable and not invested, and work must be done to include them in agricultural investment. He pointed out that the government continues to provide support to farmers in this field.

The Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Ahmed Haidar stated that the plan for the fruitful afforestation project in the governorates for this year amounts to the reclamation of 1,500 hectares. He pointed out that 572 hectares of the fruitful afforestation plan and 279 hectares of the green belt plan were reclaimed during the past year.
