Minister of Water Resources, UNICEF Representative in Syria discuss strengthening cooperation to support the water sector

Damascus (ST): The Minister of Water Resources Tammam Ra’ad discussed with the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria Angela Kearney areas of cooperation between the ministry and the organization, and plans of action for the current year.

Minister Ra’ad stressed the importance of cooperation to implement joint programs related to supporting the water sector in Syria, pointing out that the ministry is working on an integrated strategy to improve the situation of drinking water, sanitation and irrigation sectors, and to rehabilitate those that were damaged by terrorist acts.

Ra’ad indicated that work is underway to strengthen all services provided to citizens, and to all regions without exception, especially in light of the negative circumstances and effects resulting from the unilateral Western measures imposed on the Syrian people.

For her part, Kearney stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination to support early recovery and the advancement of the infrastructure of the water sector in Syria, referring to the need for continuous communication to achieve the greatest benefit for the Syrian people.
