Damascus- Syrian and Iranian intellectuals and journalists have underlined the role of intellectuals in cultural dialogue and interaction.
This was expressed at the “Intellectuals’ Role in Enhancing Steadfastness of Syrian People” Conference which was opened on Sunday at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.
The event was organized by the unions of journalists and writers in Syria in cooperation with the Union of Islamic TV and Radio in Iran.
The Iranian participants expressed their solidarity with the Syrian people in the ongoing confrontation between the forces of resistance and the forces of evil and takfiri mindset.
Chairman of the Journalists Union, Elias Murad, at the opening ceremony of the conference hailed the strategic and historic relations between Syria and Iran, stressing that these relations have had played a great role in restoring balance to the region and in expanding cooperation prospects.

Murad asserted that the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrian people will make a new history in the region and the world, especially that “we are now fighting the battle of identity and defending history and culture”.
For his part, Chairman of the Arab Writers Union Hussein Juma’a said that the Zio-American circles weren’t able to undermine resistance in the region, so they worked to create sectarian sedition in the region as an alternative of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Jum’a pointed out that the Syrian people have shown “legendary steadfastness” in the confrontation of the ongoing aggression. They also backed their army which has been defending national sovereignty.
Khalaf al-Miftah, Member of al-Baath party’s regional leadership hoped that the conference would find a unified Syrian-Iranian vision on the crisis Syria and countries of the region.
Head of the Iranian Islamic Radios and Televisions Union Rida Sadr-Eddin al-Husseini highlighted the importance of deepening cultural cooperation between Syria and Iran.
He called upon the intellectuals to convey the true image of the events in Syria to the world and to shed light on the acts of the takfiri groups backed by the global Zionism.
Cultural, political and economic dimensions of the ongoing confrontation and the role of resistance axis in the steadfastness of the Syrian people will be discussed in the two-day conference.
