A textile recycling crafts exhibition entitled “invincible women “for the “Syrian bees” association, was held on Tuesday at the Cultural Chancellery of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus.
The exhibition displays various handmade exhibits including traditional Damascene crafts, which are made from recycling cloth and rugs.
Rehab al-Khija, is director of “support project” and “team of hope” for people with special needs.
“I am from the Syrian Bees association. We work in the association as one team so our project would be strong and successful. I participated in the exhibition to acquaint people with my works,” she added.
“The exhibition is an opportunity to exchange cultures between Syria and friendly Iran because we have a similar culture, and we hope that the exhibition will be a chance to market our products,” she said.
Dr. Sahar Al-Basir, The director of the “Syria Bees” Association, told Syria times “the exhibition is a message to the Iranian people and the distinguished Iranian women who enjoy a prestigious position in the world .We are extending bridges of friendship with an ancient civilization.”
“This exhibition is an opportunity to show our products to the great Iranian people who have great culture,” Al-Basir added.
“The event also would encourage the Syrian women in Syrian Bees association to work hard and show their creation,” She said.
Participant Hasna Saeed, a trainer, started working in the association in 2011. She displayed a bed sheet, a tablecloth, pillows, decorative panels, and many things made from leftover fabrics,
Hasna sees the exhibition as an opportunity to market her products and revive the heritage of our ancestors.
“The association has training centers in many Syrian cities to train women and to preserve this kind of heritage from extinction,” Hasna said.
Samar Orabi, shows recycling rugs or “handmade carpet. “I like to make handmade rugs that go back to the ancient heritage“.
“I have been participating with the association for a year and a half and displaying hand-woven rugs,” she said.
