Lavrov: The statements claiming that Russia is undermining the interests of the European Union in Africa are baseless

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov considered that the statements claiming that Russia is undermining the interests of the European Union in Africa are groundless and mere propaganda, pointing out that his country does not interfere in the affairs of African countries, but rather provides support only at their request.

Lavrov added, during a joint press conference today with the Eswatini Foreign Minister Tulli Dladla: “Western propaganda operates under the slogans “Russia is the aggressor” and “Russia undermines the interests of the European Union in Africa”, but such phrases are baseless, and are being repeated hundreds of thousands of times in the hope of misleading listeners, viewers and recipients.”

Lavrov expressed his country’s support for the efforts made by the countries of the African continent, with the aim of combating extremist groups and terrorist organizations in the region, reaffirming Russia’s support for the United Nations Charter, respect for the rights of all countries, no matter how small or large, and Russia’s support for the issue of expanding the representation of African countries in the United Nations.

It is noteworthy that Lavrov’s visit to the Kingdom of Eswatini is considered historic within the framework of an African tour that he started yesterday from South Africa. He held a number of meetings with Eswatini
officials during which they discussed cooperation in the political, commercial, economic, military and humanitarian fields.
