Al-Mikdad to Lazzarini: Syria rejects attempts to undermine UNRWA’s role in supporting the Palestinian people

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad, met with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East “UNRWA” Philippe Lazzarini, and his accompanying delegation.

Minister Al-Mikdad affirmed Syria’s steadfast and supportive position for the Palestinian people in the face of the attempt to liquidate their cause in light of the racist practices of the Israeli occupation entity and those behind it. He also stressed Syria’s condemnation of the Israeli extremists’ attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the repeated attacks on the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, referring to Syria’s refusal of the attempts to undermine the role of “UNRWA” in supporting the Palestinian people inside Palestine and in the diaspora.

Minister Al-Mikdad spoke about the dangers of unilateral coercive sanctions on the lives of the Palestinians in Syria, who share with the Syrian people their livelihood and who aspire to return to their motherland, Palestine.

He reiterated Syria’s continuous support for UNRWA to continue its work in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and improving their conditions so that they can meet their growing needs.

In turn, Lazzarini expressed UNRWA’s keenness to continue providing aid to the Palestinian refugees in Syria, appreciating the Syrian government’s efforts to cooperate in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians, and stressing the importance of mobilizing the necessary support to meet the challenges facing UNRWA, especially in the field of funding.
