Mansour calls for international protection for the Palestinian people

New York, (ST) –  Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, renewed his call on the international community, led by the Security Council, to move and work to implement its decisions to provide protection for the Palestinian people. He called for ensuring the Palestinians people’s enjoyment of their legitimate and inalienable national rights, and ending their suffering under the Israeli occupation.

Wafa News Agency stated that Mansour made it clear in three identical letters to each of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month, and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, that the terrorism of the Israeli occupation forces and settlers against the Palestinians is escalating. He pointed out that within two weeks, 15 Palestinians, including 4 children, were killed in bloody incursions launched by the occupation forces on villages, towns and camps in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied West Bank.

Mansour referred to the punitive measures announced by the occupation authorities against the Palestinian people, their leadership, and civil society institutions and organizations in retaliation for the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a Palestinian draft resolution in favor of requesting a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice on settlements, and occupation’s continued violation of the rights of the Palestinian people.

Mansour stressed the urgent need for the international community to take measures to put an end to these illegal practices, by imposing international law, including imposing a military embargo on “Israel”, the occupying power that uses its weapons to harm human rights directly. He also stressed the need for urgent efforts. Individually and collectively by countries and organizations to ensure that the occupation is held accountable for its crimes and to provide protection for the Palestinian people.
