Russia Calls for a Comprehensive Negotiation Process to Bring Peace to Yemen

New York (ST) –First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, affirmed the necessity of developing the necessary decisions within the framework of comprehensive negotiation process under the auspices of the United Nations as a way to bring peace based on the legitimate interests of all the main political forces in Yemen.

Russia Today website quoted Polyanskiy as saying during the UN Security Council session on the situation in Yemen: “Achieving stabilization is only possible through direct dialogue with the Ansar Allah movement, whose presence is a fact that has an effect on the existing military-political balance of power.”

He stressed that they are looking positively at the efforts made through any channels aimed at getting the Yemeni settlement out of the impasse, and opening the way to stability.

He added: “The end goal of the West is not a lasting solution to challenges faced by Yemen, which have a direct impact on neighboring countries. Rather, the aim of the West is to ensure the smooth export of Yemeni hydrocarbons onto the global market – such an opportunistic approach is extremely dangerous for sustainable peace in the country.”

Polyanskiy pointed out that the social and economic situation in Yemen is still difficult. He highlighted the need to provide humanitarian assistance to all people in the country and lift any restriction on the delivery of food and medicine.
