Afforestation of  Kom al-Hassa site in Suwayda with 1,000 plants on an area of one hectare

Today, the Directorate of Agriculture in Al-Suwayda organized an afforestation campaign within forest lands at Kom al-Hassa site, which has been subjected to encroachments on its forest trees during the last period.

The campaign, which was held to celebrate the seventy-first anniversary of the Tree Festival, under the title (Let’s plant for a green future), included planting an area of one hectare of land with about 1,000 saplings of eucalyptus, cypress and pine, with the participation of agricultural, trade union, labor and official parties.

Governor of Al-Suwayda, Eng. Bassam Mamdouh Parsec, indicated in a press statement, during his participation in the campaign, the importance of working to plant the largest possible number of trees and encourage agriculture, to confront climate change and illegal cutting of trees. He highlighted the concerted efforts of the civil society with the concerned institutions for this purpose, noting the initiatives that the  governorate witnessed to plant  many sites under the supervision of the Directorate of Agriculture.

In turn, Director of Agriculture in Al-Suwayda, Eng. Ayham Hamed, clarified in a statement to SANA reporter that this campaign is included in  the afforestation plan that the Directorate is working on implementing for this season, which amounts to about 650 dunums in several locations, which contributes to increasing green areas. He underlined the importance of planting trees to confront the phenomenon of encroachment on forests and woodlands.

For his part, head of the forestry department in the Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Anas Abu Fakhr, stated in a similar statement that the afforestation plan for the current season has reached, to date, an area of 30 hectares, in the sites of Al-Kafr, Al-Raha and Al-Qina, in which about 14,000 trees were planted.

Member of the Peasant Association in the city of Shahba, Hani Baroud, stressed the importance of increasing green areas, calling for intensifying afforestation operations in various regions.
