Brahimi: World Community Consensus on Political Solution in Syria

AMMAN,(ST)_ The  UN envoy to Syria LakhdarBrahimi stressed that there is now an almost total  consensus in the World community that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria , and the  ” nightmare ” that overwhelms the Syrians can be only ended  through a political solution.

Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted Brahimias saying  in a joint news conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in Amman yesterday,  that ” he held important and necessary talks with Judeh on the crisis in Syria and its grave consequences which  threaten not  only Syria and its future but the  region, and is  the most serious crisis threatening peace and stability, at the meantime. “

Brahimi added  that ” his tour is at the request of the  UN Secretary -General Ban Ki-moon and the foreign ministers of the UN five permanent members who have realized the  seriousness of this situation ,” adding “We strive towards a political solution to the crisis in Syria and we look forward  for closer cooperation with the countries of the region. “

For his part, Judeh  stressed Jordan ‘s  position which calls for the importance of reaching a political solution to ensure Syria’s  security and safety and territorial integrity , with the participation of all the components of the Syrian people.

Judeh added that  ” Brahimi ‘s  visit and discussions in Amman  come under the tour to a number of countries in the region in preparation for the convening of an international conference on Syria in Geneva at the UN invitation ” , hoping that this conference will be the beginning to resolve this crisis.

Meantime, King Abdullah II of Jordan renewed during a meeting with Brahimi, his country ‘s support for the efforts to find a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in Syria that  stops  violence and maintains Syria ‘s land and people  unity .

Brahimi arrived in Jordan yesterday morning after a tour that covered Egypt , Oman, Kuwait and Iraq.
