Consultative workshop to adopt a labor market information system

Participants in the consultative workshop held in Damascus today by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor discussed the prototype of the labor market information system prepared by the ministry, with the aim of organizing job opportunities

The participants, who represented the youth segment from various university and professional specializations, referred to the goals, objectives and results of the labor market system and the challenges the young people face in obtaining suitable job opportunities in terms of market trends, and the development witnessed in the techniques and skills required for job seekers.

During the workshop, which was held in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program UNDP, the prototype of the labor market information system platform in Syria was presented, and a number of proposals that serve to develop and classify the platform were discussed in a way that facilitates access and registration, raises awareness of decent work and increases entrepreneurial projects.

Assistant Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Muhammad Firas Nabhan explained the importance of the workshop and the ideas put forward by the youth that contribute to accessing an accurate database on labor market needs and available opportunities.

The Assistant Minister stressed the importance of developing strategies that enable decision-makers to take actions that support the youth group and facilitate their chances of entering the labor market and linking their education achievement to it.

Hassan Fallaha, Director of the Active Labor Market Program at the United Nations Development Program UNDP considered that engaging young people in developing the platform contributes to enhancing their interaction with it because they are the beneficiaries of it, along with the owners of establishments and companies that offer job opportunities according to certain qualifications and experiences.

It is noteworthy that the labor market information system project aims to reach an approved national information system for the labor market, and it includes job seekers, companies and institutions, as well as training opportunities.
