On January 8th, the World Health Organization warned that one of the new sub-variants of the Omicron mutant is the most transmissible strain to date.
“We are concerned about the growth of the variant (XPP 1.5) in Europe and Northeast America,” Sputnik news agency quoted Maria Van Kerkhove, technical officer for the Corona virus in the organization, as saying.
Until now, scientists do not know if the new variant causes more serious disease or leads to more negative outcomes such as the long-term effects of the Coronavirus.
Researchers are also still studying how the vaccines can resist XPP1.5, but note that the updated bivalent booster dose remains the best way to protect against it.
