Government irrigation project west of Boukmal increases agricultural production, encourages citizens to settle in their areas

The General Establishment for Land Reform continues with the test operation of the government irrigation project in Deir Ezzor province, in preparation to put it into service within the coming few days.

The project stopped for more than 10 years due to terrorism, Director of the establishment Rabee Ali told SANA, clarifying that all the necessary equipment have been secured and all preparations have been completed to start actual operation within days. He pointed out that the project will irrigate 7500 hectares of agricultural land in the western countryside of Boukmal.

For his part, Director of Agriculture in Deir Ezzor Fouad Abdeen said that the land, planted with wheat for this season, will expand to reach 3650 hectares mainly in the cities and towns of Al-Qat’a, Al-Jalaa, Al-Ramadi, Hasarat, Al-Sayal Al-Gharbi, Al-Sayal Al-Sharqi, Al-Ghabra and Al-Abbas.

The farmers, who benefit from this project, have prepared their fields to plant them with wheat and now they are waiting for the actual operation of the project to irrigate their lands, according to Head of Farmers’ Union’s branch in Deir Ezzor Khazzan Al-Sahu.

Al-Sahu stressed the importance of the project as it will contributes to increasing agricultural production, particularly the strategic crops of wheat and cotton, and to encouraging many farmers to return to their fields and settle in their cities and villages.
