Damascus (ST): The Director of Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Razan Tarabishi, stated that more than a million people of all ages were vaccinated with the oral cholera vaccine, during the campaign launched by the Ministry on the 4th of this month.
Dr. Al-Tarabishi explained in a statement that more than 50 percent of the targeted population has been reached in the governorates most affected by the disease and targeted by the campaign, pointing out that the number of vaccinated people in Raqqa governorate reached 431,258 people, 325,706 in Aleppo governorate, and 244,161 in Deir Ezzour governorate. person.
Dr. Al-Tarabishi indicated that coverage rates are still increasing in Deir Ezzour Governorate, and the vaccination campaign started two days ago in Hasakeh Governorate and will continue at the end of this month.
Dr. Al-Tarabishi pointed out that the campaign is being implemented through 63 health centers and 685 mobile teams, with the participation of 2,269 health workers, stressing that the vaccine is safe and approved, and has proven effective all over the world.
It is noteworthy that the total cumulative number of confirmed cases of cholera in Syria reached 1627, and the number of deaths reached 49 deaths.
