Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad and UNICEF’s Regional Director in the Middle East and North Africa Adele Khodr on Monday discussed UNICEF’s activities in Syria and the region.
The two sides also discussed the negative impacts of global crises on children’s health and education, stressing the need to join efforts in confrontation of these impacts.
The minister explained the grave impacts of the foreign-backed terrorist war on Syria and the inhuman coercive economic measures imposed by western countries on the Syrian people that affected all sectors in the country, mainly education, health and children issues. He pointed out that wars always have disastrous effects on children and women which necessitate exerting more efforts by children rights organizations, particularly the UNICEF, to support these children and help them overcome the challenges.
He appreciated the efforts exerted by the organization in cooperation with the Syrian ministries and concerned parties with the aim of supporting children in Syria, affirming the need to accelerate work in early recovery projects, particularly rehabilitating the schools and health institutions destroyed by terrorist organizations in different parts of Syria.
Al-Mikdad reiterated the great care provided by the Syrian state to the children and their issues.
For her part, Khodr thanked Syria for the great support it provides for UNICEF’s work in the country, hailing the high level of coordination and cooperation between the two sides in implementing humanitarian projects and programs.
She reviewed the organization’s plans and projects in different fields that will be carried out in cooperation with the Syrian side.
