On December 18th, Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, confirmed that Washington follows an approach in its relations with Russia, driven by the constant desire to prove itself, as if the ghosts of the Cold War are still haunting it.
The Novosti agency quoted Antonov as saying in an interview with the American “Newsweek” magazine, commenting on the reasons that drive Washington to continuously seek to establish a zone of instability near the Russian borders: “Many American politicians still think and act according to the laws of the Cold War, as Moscow’s restoration of its prestige has become a source of inconvenience for them.:
Antonov explained that Washington always intends to hold Russia responsible for its own problems and mistakes and uses it as a “scarecrow” to justify its unprecedented military spending.
He added: “In addition, under the pretext of the events in Ukraine, the US administration is destroying the mutually beneficial relations between Russia and Europe, which puts the latter in dependence on Washington.”
He pointed out that the road ahead is long before building a multipolar world, and in the midst of this transformation, the Russian-American competition will not stop overnight.
