The UNGA adopts a resolution condemning the glorification and promotion of Nazism and racism

New York (ST): The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the glorification and promotion of Nazism and neo-Nazism, and calling for the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination by all available means.

The resolution submitted by Russia condemns the exploitation of education for racist propaganda, discrimination and hatred on ethnic, national, religious, or intellectual grounds.

RIA Novosti reported that 120 countries voted in favor of the resolution, which bore the name “Fighting the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that lead to the escalation of contemporary forms of racism and racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.” 50 countries voted against the resolution, and 10 countries abstained.

The resolution includes recommendations for states to take the necessary measures, including legislative ones, in accordance with their international obligations in the field of human rights, in order to prevent a review of the history and results of World War II and to deny crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during World War II.
