Syria Trust for Development signs cooperation agreement with “Wathiqat Watan” Foundation to preserve intangible cultural heritage

The Syria Trust for Development on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement with the Wathiqat Watan ( Homeland Document ) Foundation to unify and organize efforts to preserve the Syrian intangible cultural heritage within a unified strategic vision.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of the Syrian Trust for Development, Shadi Elshi, and the project manager of the Wathiqat Watan Foundation Mousa Al-Khoury.

The Syria Trust for Development noted in a statement posted on its Facebook page that the duration of the agreement is five years, through which it seeks to protect the Syrian cultural identity in a way that sheds light locally and globally on the richness of the Syrian heritage and sharing it with international communities through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The statement pointed out that the Syria Trust for Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the concerned authorities, has been able to include 5 Syrian heritage elements within the UNESCO lists of the World Humanitarian Heritage, the last of which was the element of making and playing lutes.

It stressed that it seeks, through the Living Heritage Program, to protect and preserve the Syrian cultural identity and heritage, and to ensure its transmission to future generations in cooperation with partners, concerned parties, individuals and local communities, confirming that it provides its expertise to them as a consulting member of UNESCO.
