Tabbaa discusses with a number of representatives of international organizations ways to support vocational and technical education in Syria
On December 14th, Minister of Education, Dr. DaremTabbaa, discussed with a number of representatives of international organizations operating in Syria the situation of vocational and technical education in the country, the difficulties facing its development and ways to support it.
During a meeting in the Ministry’s building in Damascus, Minister Tabbaa pointed to the role of vocational education in graduating professional skilled people who are capable of securing the requirements of Syria’s infrastructure in the reconstruction phase and of supplying the labor market.
He said that this meeting is an opportunity to discuss ways of cooperation with international organizations operating in Syria and concerned with this matter to develop vocational education into a productive sector.
He stressed the necessity of expanding the scope of post-secondary technical education, linking technical education with the Center for Lifelong Education, linking it with development plans and the needs of the labor market.
During the meeting, the Director of Vocational and Technical Education at the Ministry, Engineer Fahmy Al-Akhal, gave a presentation on the current situation of vocational and technical education.
He indicated the importance of this sector as a link between the educational system and the labor market and as it works to provide students with scientific and theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
For her part, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Education Sector Coordinator Mickey Kwede expressed the organization’s readiness to cooperate in various fields to support the education sector, especially restoring the schools that teach vocational education, securing their requirements and encouraging students to develop their skills according to their desires, which would qualify them to master a profession and enter the labor market later.
